Happy Canada Day folks!

I’m proudly celebrating my 10th year here this year. The memories, the excitement and the apprehension of being a new immigrant are still fresh in my mind.

Vancouver with all its beauty and grandeur made us feel at home pretty soon. We could access the mountains, lakes, trails, parks and the ocean all in one place!

hinking in retrospect, our transition and settling down was quite smooth as my husband and I quickly found jobs in our relevant fields. We’ve made some amazing friends along the way, and have had the pleasure of working for Canadian and International companies with a wonderful set of colleagues.

So why in my nutrition blog am I rambling about these things? That’s because holistic nutrition is not just about feeding the body but also about nurturing the soul and the mind. Recognising the blessings in your life and being grateful for them enables you do to just that. We can get pretty absorbed in our daily lives and challenges at work and home. In the ’rut’ if you will; it’s easy to get caught up in a cycle of negative thoughts and we soon cease to see how blessed we actually are. If unchecked this negative attitude can quickly cause stress and even depression. It’s a vicious cycle, which eventually leads us down the path of illnesses and medications.

Expressing gratitude daily keeps your negative thoughts in check. I love this quote from Eckhart Tolle, ’Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.’

Every night before going to bed write down 3 things that you are grateful for that day. It could be as simple as saying: ’Today I’m grateful for: a bright sunny day’…’….’

So what are you grateful for today?
